The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) and the Port Alberni Friendship Centre (PAFC) are honoured to host Gathering our Voices 2019 on the traditional territories of the Hupačasath and Tseshaht First Nations
From March 19-22, 2019 GOV will bring together more than 800 Indigenous youth delegates as well as chaperones, presenters and guests to Port Alberni, BC. Young people from all across Canada are invited to join us to explore, to learn and to engage with our culture among peers. Youth, chaperones, presenters, Elders, volunteers and other guests will have the opportunity to make new connections, rekindle old bonds, engage their passions and discover a new drive.
Volunteers are a crucial part of our event! We could not host this event without the help of hundreds of volunteers each gathering. Volunteers share their skills, passion and experience. They send youth a powerful message; that they are worthy of our time and energy. GOV offers a wide array of volunteer opportunities, which all have a direct impact in the lives of Indigenous youth.
This year we are hoping to recruit over 100 volunteers. Volunteers are asked to do a minimum of two 4-hour shifts over the course of the event. We need help in all areas: site set-up and take-down, registration, security, assisting Elders, venue guides, breakfast and lunch help, evening entertainment, greeters, plus other areas.
